AFC appoint Aussie officials for ACL final

A team of Australian referees, lead by Ben Williams, will officiate the 2012 AFC Champions League final between Ulsan Hyundai and Al Ahli on Saturday night.

The 2012 AFC Champions League final will have a distinctly Australian flavour this weekend when a team of Australian referees, lead by Ben Williams, officiate the game between Ulsan Hyundai (Korea) v Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia) Final on Saturday night.

The match to be played at Ulsan Musu Football Stadium in Korea Republic will be the first time a AFC Champions League Final has been officiated entirely by Australian referees since the 2009 Final when Matthew Breeze, Matt Cream, Peter Green and now Referees Director Ben Wilson presided over the match.

The officiating group includes referee Ben Williams, Assistant Referees Luke Brennan and Paul Cetrangolo with Strebre Delovski appointed as Fourth Official.

FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson has commended the call-up and regards the appointments as a strong endorsement of the refereeing advancement programs in place in Australia.

“This is a fantastic endorsement of the hard work and professional standards our referees are reaching and the regard by which they are held internationally,” Wilson said.

“Ben has been doing a great job and is progressing well on the international stage and this appointment is a reflection on his performances.

“To have a full team of referees for this match shows Australia is at the forefront of refereeing in Asian and will be fantastic moment in each of their careers.”

The team will depart Australia on November 8 for the match on Saturday, 10 November in Korea Republic.

The AFC Champions League Final will be broadcast on Fox Sports.
