Adelaide United v Melbourne City: match preview

Adelaide United and Melbourne City have developed quite a tasty rivalry in recent seasons and Saturday night promises to be another intriguing clash at Coopers Stadium.

After coming through a mini-slump where they lost four straight matches, the Reds have now won back-to-back matches and appear to be headed in the right direction.

They also have an excellent record in front of their own fans, winning seven of their last 10 matches at Coopers.

Gertjan Verbeek’s side swept four goals past Western United FC last weekend and their attack will be even more formidable on Saturday night as Al Hassan Toure returns from Olyroos duty.

But City arrive in the City of Churches also boosted by the return of some key young Australian stars and currently six points and three places ahead of the Reds.

City’s goalless draw with Perth Glory last weekend has improved their unbeaten run to four matches, but they remain 10 points behind league-leaders Sydney FC.

Erick Mombaerts’ men - who are one goal away from their 400th in the Hyundai A-League - won’t fear taking on the Reds, having lost just one of the last nine games between the clubs in the league.
