Last Saturday, over 100 coaches attended the Advanced Licence Refresher Coaching Course at Knox Grammar School in Sydney.

The one day course, which included theory and practical sessions, updated A Licence and B Licence Coaches on the AFC-Approved Advanced Coaching Licence content.

National Coach Education Manager Kelly Cross presented on combination play and attacking formations, and led discussion on coaches observations of the FIFA World Cup footage.

Ex-Socceroo Captain, Paul Okon presented a report and answered questions on a recent overseas study visit to Italy and PSV Eindhoven as part of the FFA Coach Development Scholarship. Coaches benefited from hearing his observations, including the culture and approach to training in the Italian Olympic Team and PSV Youth and Senior Teams.

In the afternoon session, coaches moved to the pristine Knox Grammar pitch to watch practical coaching sessions presented by Hugh McCrory, Branko Culina, and Kelly Cross. There is more than one style of coaching and many ways to achieve a coaching outcome, and participants appreciated seeing several experienced coaches working.

Attendees gained 20 points towards their Re-Accreditation, in which they have to accumulate 100 points in a four year period.

The Advanced Licence Re-Accreditation policy puts emphasis on coaches to ‘update- the theoretical and practical content of Advanced Pathway courses. In other words, to ‘find out more-, to ‘hear about the latest trends-, to ‘learn other skills to improve myself as a coach-.
