Regional town Whyalla has hosted South Australia's inaugural Cottee's Schools 5-a-side Gala Day. Held at the Whyalla Croatia Soccer Club, Year 3 and 4 students from the local schools took to the modified fields in a five-game round robin format. The day also included both boys and girls juggling and penalty-shootout competitions, where great prizes were distributed.
With the support of Cotte's, this new Football Federation Australia Game Development initiative takes grassroots Football direct to the schools, in which participation, fun and enjoyment are the key outcomes of this truly tremendous day.
The day commenced at 9.15am when teams began arriving and from the onset, it was evident a great day was to be had by all. The students were a bundle of joy combined with the great tasting new flavour of Cottee's Gubble Bum, the excitement and energy levels never ceased throughout the day.
Thanks to Cottee's, at the completion of the day, all students who participated in the fun took home a 'goodies' showbag which included a mini soccer ball, drink bottle, a fridge photo frame magnet, 'Gubble Bum' tattoo and 750ml Cottee's Gubble Bum Cordial.
Extended thanks go to Dave Gosling from the Whyalla Junior Soccer Association for organising a suitable venue and also to the Whyalla Croatia Soccer Club for providing such fantastic facilities for the event. The local schools have already stated their intentions to be involved in the next Whyalla Cottee's Schools 5-a-side Gala Day in the future.
