Vale: Frank Miller

Respected football journalist Frank Miller has passed away peacefully at the age of 82.

It is with regret to announce, Francis Robert 'Frank' Miller, Western Australia-s foremost multi-media football journalist, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18 February 2012.

Frank was born 4 October 1929 in Fortrose in Scotland's Black Isle. He arrived in Western Australia in 1947 and after playing the game for two years with Balmoral Rangers, his commitment to the game after that was with the media.

Between 1950 and 1972, Frank scribed for the Daily News, Weekend News and The West Australian.

Frank, along with the ABC's Jim Fitzmaurice, were the first announcers for an outside broadcast in April 1960.

It was a test broadcast of football match (Swan Valley vs. Windmills) at Bayswater Oval.

Frank continued with the ABC TV for several more years, calling State representative matches.

Channel Nine also utilised his services when their outside broadcast unit covered local night series matches.

Frank was a foundational committee member of the Football Hall of Fame WA in 1996, of which he himself was inducted, in 2002. In 2010 he became a life member of Australia's Football Media Association.
