Students at North Lakes State College have been the first in Brisbane-s newest suburb to enjoy Football Federation Australia-s national development program - Telstra Football Anytime (TFA). Each student participated in 6 one hour sessions and each received their individual participant kit containing a Nike football, a drink bottle and enough cones to set up a field of their own to continue to play after the completion of the program.

“The program has been a great success” said head TFA coach Graham Garven “The program is not only for current players but for anybody who wants to play. The kids love the games and they get lots of time with the ball at their feet.”

Each session is conducted by accredited Football Federation Australia (FFA) coaches and the program is coordinated by Queensland based manager Phil Hazlett. “ The North lakes College was a great place to introduce TFA on the north side, the kids were great and they all enjoyed their time with us”

Not only did the children enjoy the program but parents also got to be part of it if they whished. “Parents are more than welcome to come along as volunteers and learn more about coaching the game and have fun with their kids” says Hazlett.

Karen White, mother of 8 year old Samantha says“ she really enjoyed it, she loved the fact that there were a lot of other girls, it was fun and she learnt a lot as she went”. “The coaches were fun” said 7 year old Robbie Manner a first time player in the program, “it was good coming here said Queensland Roar fan Bradley Donaldson “we get to be like a Roar player!”

Even though the program is over, its not too late to be involved in a TFA program. Hazlett says “After the success of this program we will be opening it up to the community which will mean everyone can join in.” TFA is joining forces with English football coach Andy Pinches and will be running the TFA/AV Soccer Stars program at the Woodside Sports Fields, Discovery Drive on Monday afternoons 7th 14th 21st, 28th May 4th 11th June.

Schools will receive registration forms or you can download a form at www.footballaustralia.com.au/footballanytime.
