CommBank Matildas’ Katrina Gorry and Clare Wheeler have been medically withdrawn from Australia’s extended squad to host Brazil and Chinese Taipei during the November / December FIFA Women’s International Window.
Gorry sustained a shoulder injury over the weekend in West Ham’s Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion WFC shortly after scoring her first two goals for the club.
Everton Women’s FC midfielder Wheeler will also be unavailable due to a lower leg injury following her side’s 1-0 win over local rival Liverpool WFC on Sunday.
Both Gorry and Wheeler will continue their return to play treatment plans with their respective teams. No replacements will be added, with the CommBank Matildas’ squad for the upcoming assembly now at 34-players.
Australia and Brazil will kick-off the last international window of the year at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Thursday, 28 November. The two teams will do battle again three days later on the Gold Coast at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday, 1 December.
The CommBank Matildas will then face AFC compatriots Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, 4 December at Melbourne’s AAMI Park before completing 2024 at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday, 7 December in Geelong.
