The FFA welcomes the additional transport and logistical support from the NSW Government announced today as football fever builds ahead of Sunday-s Hyundai A-League 2008 Grand Final between the Central Coast Mariners and the Newcastle Jets at the Sydney Football Stadium.

“The Grand Final is the biggest game of the year for the Hyundai A-League and by holding it at the Sydney Football Stadium we are giving as many people as possible the opportunity to enjoy the occasion,” CEO of FFA, Ben Buckley said.

“It will be a fantastic battle for the championship and this venue gives the Hyundai A-League Grand Final the status it deserves for the players, the clubs and, importantly, the game.”

Minister for Transport, John Watkins, confirmed today they are more than doubling the capacity of trains from Newcastle to meet the demand and the FFA encourages all fans to take advantage of the enhanced public transport options available to come and go from the big match.

“We are delighted there will be extra trains and additional carriages being put on to meet the demand of fans,” said Buckley.

“We strongly encourage everyone coming along to plan ahead on how they will get to and from the game, give themselves plenty of time and most importantly, to have an enjoyable and safe Grand Final.

“In addition to an exciting and competitive football match between two quality teams, there will be entertainment for fans of all ages, so we encourage people to plan on arriving early to take advantage of what-s on offer.”

Buckley also announced that the pre-match entertainment includes the Sydney-based Irish duo, The Potbelleez, with the national anthem to be performed by Brisbane songbird, Katie Noonan.

Buckley said that the regional NSW Hyundai A-league Grand Final is something for all sports fans.

“Whether you-re a passionate fan of Central Coast or Newcastle, or someone who likes seeing top level sport live, or if you-re looking for somewhere to take the family on Sunday afternoon, this is a game not to be missed.

“A Grand Final is a great occasion, and we encourage all fans to come to the Sydney Football Stadium this Sunday and enjoy it!”
