Rogic stars for Celtic, Jedinak’s Villa debut

It was the Tom Rogic show as Celtic ran out big winners in Scotland, while Mile Jedinak made his Aston Villa debut and Mat Leckie began his Bundesliga campaign with Ingolstadt.

Rogic continued his stellar start to the new season with the Hoops with a classy individual performance in their 4-1 win over Aberdeen.

The Caltex Socceroos playmaker not only set up James Forrest’s goal to give Celtic a 2-1 lead at the break but put the icing on a big win with a goal of his own in the final minute.

Rogic curled a superb free-kick around the wall and into the bottom corner of the net to mark a man-of-the-match performance from the 23-year-old.

It’s been a big week for Rogic, whose Celtic side was pitted against Barcelona and Manchester City in the UEFA Champions’ League group stage, while he knows head back to Australia for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Iraq.

Caltex Socceroo skipper Mile Jedinak’s Aston Villa career got off on the wrong note as they went down 3-1 at Bristol City.

But Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield stayed on top of the Championship after a 1-0 win over Wolves, with Mooy again instrumental for the home side.

Massimo Luongo got another 90 minutes under his belt as QPR won 1-0 at Wigan, but Bailey Wright’s Preston North End were beaten by the same score at Ipswich Town and Callum Elder played a full game in Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

There was a second EPL appearance for teenage Aussie Aiden O’Neill, who played the last 33 minutes for Burnley as they lost 3-0 at league-leaders Chelsea.

Brad Smith and Adam Federici both remained on the bench for AFC Bournemouth, who conceded in stoppage-time to draw 1-1 at Crystal Palace.

Mat Ryan was again in goal for Valencia but they slumped to a second straight La Liga defeat, going down 1-0 at Eibar.

In Germany, Mat Leckie’s Ingolstadt opened their Bundesliga campaign with 1-1 draw at Hamburger SV, with Leckie playing a full match, while in Bundesliga2, Milos Degenek was excellent as 1860 Munich drew 0-0 at Karlsruher.

Bruce Djite was the star in Korea as Suwon FC won 2-0 over Incheon United, with the former Adelaide United striker scoring both goals.

In League One, Bradford City’s James Meredith went up against Cameron Burgess and Oldham Athletic, with the two Aussies sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

North of the border, Scott McDonald was up front for Motherwell who drew 0-0 with Dundee, while Ryan Edwards started for Oartick Thistle but they lost 2-1 at home against Hearts.
