Country town Renmark, approximately 3 hours north of Adelaide was the place to be for the Riverland Girls Gala Day held Sunday 22nd February.
Riverland JSA President Steve Poutakidis together with FFSA representatives John Mundy - Coaching & Development Manager, Nathan Kosmina - FFSA Development Officer and FFA representative Vito Basile - Regional Participation Manager, played host to approximately 40 bright, enthusiastic and skilled girls aged between 12-20 years old, who all battled the warm and dry conditions to produce some fine football.
As Womens Football is rapidly growing in Australia, the Riverland Girls Gala Day was an introductory session for female players to participate in small sided games and basic skills of the game. Players from all over the Riverland region were in attendance, catering both for the experienced player and for the beginner. With such a promising turn out of female players, the region looks healthy in its bid to help develop the female version of Football and perhaps one day discover Matildas for our Senior Womens National Team.
Thank you to both the parents and participants for their efforts. Having developed a solid foundation, it is now hoped the girls within the Riverland region can continue forward with their great work to further themselves and Womens Football. Thank you also to Caroline Tuhoro for her assistance on the day.
