It was a Queensland double at the biggest national schools competition in Australia, with John Paul College taking out the Bill Turner Cup (Boys) and Cavendish Road State defending their Bill Turner Trophy (Girls) title.   The boys final was a tight affair with John Paul College winning 1-0 in extra time, while Cavendish proved far too strong for Bega High winning 6-1.   The Boys final, which was defending champions Westfields Sports High-s sixth, was rated as one of the best finals of the Bill Turner Cup for many, many years by all that have been associated with the tournament for a long time. Even Mr Turner himself was ecstatic with the quality of football demonstrated by both teams.   The match was tight throughout with very few chances on goal. The first on 17 minutes (of 60) from a neat build up by Westfields down the right flank by wingback Aaron MOOY, his cross finding striker Brent McGrath inside the area, but unfortunately for McGRATH the officials pulled him back, after he had slotted the ball past JPC ‘keeper James Logan for a hand ball.   JPC went looking for goals in the second half but they too were denied, not by the officials but by solid defense from Westfields.   The full time 0-0 deadlock was broken 13 minutes (of 20) in to golden-goal extra-time by Chan Il CHUNG who netted off a square ball from Mayank BAROT.   In the play-off for third place, Oxley High, thanks to a 2nd minute goal from Andrew James, beat Daramalan College 1-0.   Star Player of Bill Turner Cup: Andrew James (Oxley High)    Cavendish Road successfully defended their 2003 title with a well-earned 6-1 victory over Bega High.   Lorena MAGGIO was the standout for Cavendish Road scoring a hat-trick of goals in the match.   After an even first 15 minutes, Cavendish gained the advantage when Bega-s Renee ROLLASON headed an own goal after 16 minutes.   This opened up the game and MAGGIO came to the fore adding a second in the 21st minute to make it 2-0 at the break.   MAGGIO then made any Bega comeback almost impossible a minute into the second half with her second and completed her hat-trick ten minutes later from the penalty spot.   ROLLASON made up for own goal by scoring for Bega in the 49th minute, but two goals from Cavendish skipper Fatima FLORES blew the score out to 6-1.   In the play-off for third place, Westfields Sports High won 2-1 over Hunter Sports High. Stephanie HAIM scored twice in the 7th and 40th minutes, while Rebecca Davies scored in the 26th minute.   Star Player of Bill Turner Trophy: Renee Rollason (Bega High)
