Matildas Capped
All players that have represented the Matildas have been formally recognised for their achievement with Football Federation Australia this year commenced a formal ‘capping’ program similar to that which was introduced for the Socceroos last year.
Caps have been allocated based on the chronological order of national team debut appearance.
Cap number one has been allocated to Julie Dolan, who captained the Australian side in its historic first international match against New Zealand in 1979.
The first official presentation of caps occurred this week just prior to the Matildas departure for the 2007 FIFA Women-s World Cup in China.
The current squad were all presented with their caps while also recognised were Dolan, FFA Board member Moya Dodd, FIFA Committee Member Julie Murray and current Matildas' staff member Sonia Gegenhuber. A total of 159 players have represented Australia in women-s full internationals and presentations will progressively be made to all other players.
The farewell function also saw special presentations made to centurions Cheryl Salisbury and Joanne Peters, plus current members of the '50 club- - Dianne Alagich, Alicia Ferguson, Heather Garriock, Kate McShea and Rhian Davies.
