Matildas Abroad Preview: Players return after international window; Arsenal, City look to keep pressure on WSL top two

CommBank Matildas return to their clubs this weekend as Arsenal and Manchester City continue their pursuit of the top two teams in the WSL.

England

Women's Super League

Leicester City will travel to take on Manchester United on Sunday, 11.30pm AEDT. United is currently second on the table and hopes to continue their positive momentum after the international break, while Leicester continues to look over its shoulder towards the bottom of the table. Courtney Nevin will be available for Leicester.

Aston Villa and Everton face off on Monday, 1am AEDT. Three points for either side would see them accelerate away from the relegation zone and further towards safety. Clare Wheeler will hope to return from injury in this game for Everton.

Four CommBank Matildas will take the field as Tottenham Hotspur hosts Manchester City on Monday, 1am AEDT. City will go into the game as heavy favourites as they try to close the gap with Arsenal ahead of them. Charli Grant, Hayley Raso and Clare Hunt will be available for Spurs while Mary Fowler will be available for City.

Crystal Palace will search for their second win of the season against Liverpool on Monday, 1am AEDT. Liverpool will be without long-time coach Matt Beard for the first time after parting ways during the week. Teagan Micah will be available for Liverpool.

Chelsea travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday, 2am AEDT as they look to maintain their undefeated record for the season. Brighton, meanwhile, will look to reset after a disappointing series of results after the winter break. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea, but is getting closer to return from injury.

Arsenal and West Ham will finish the round on Monday, 4.30am AEDT. A win for Arsenal will see them remain above Manchester City in third for another week. Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Kyra Cooney-Cross will be available for Arsenal, while Katrina Gorry will be available for the Hammers.

FA Championship

Birmingham City takes on Blackburn Rovers on Monday, 1am AEDT. Birmingham is currently top of the table and will be heavy favourites against a Blackburn side languishing near the bottom of the table. However, every game is vital in their quest for promotion. Emily van Egmond will be available for Birmingham.

Selected games of the FA Championship are available on the Barclay’s Women’s Championship YouTube Channel. Birmingham’s game will not be shown this week.

France

Lyon will take on Strasbourg on Sunday, 7am AEDT. Any kind of point for Strasbourg would be a shock against Lyon, who remain undefeated in the league. Ellie Carpenter will be available for Lyon.

Sweden

The Svenska Cupen Damer – the Swedish Cup – gets underway this weekend. The tournament begins with a group stage before a knockout stage to determine the winner.

Kristianstads DFF and AIK Fotboll face off on Monday, 1am AEDT. Based on last season’s results, Kristianstads will be favourites, but AIK will carry the momentum of avoiding relegation with them into this campaign.

Remy Siemsen will be available for Kristianstads. Amy Sayer remains at the Swedish club and is continuing her ACL rehabilitation. Jada Whyman will be hoping to make her return from injury for AIK.

Netherlands

FC Twente take on Den Haag on Monday, 2.45am AEDT. Den Haag are one of the teams that are battling against relegation and FC Twente will be hoping for all three points to keep pressure on Ajax at the top of the table, who they only trail by one point. Daniela Galic will be available for Twente.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland continue to build into the second half of the season, taking on Odense in a friendly on Sunday, 1am AEDT. Winonah Heatley will be available for her club side.
