Hyundai A-League Goes to The Adelaide Oval

Football Federation Australia today confirmed that the Round 18 Hyundai A-League 2007/08 blockbuster between Adelaide United and Sydney FC will be played at the Adelaide Oval on Friday 28th December 2007.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that the Round 18 Hyundai A-League 2007/08 blockbuster between Adelaide United and Sydney FC will be played at the Adelaide Oval on Friday 28th December 2007.

Rob Abernethy, FFA's Head of A-League Operations said, “this is a unique opportunity to take the Hyundai A-League to one of Australia's iconic sporting venues. We trust that all South Australians will support their team for this inaugural Hyundai A-League fixture at Adelaide Oval.”

At today's announcement in Adelaide Mr Sam Ciccarello, CEO of the Adelaide United Football Club said, “football is a popular sport in Adelaide, particularly following the success of the Socceroos in last year-s World Cup and Adelaide United-s winning record in the three seasons of national competition. Providing a showcase event in the heart of the city opens up the game for a whole new audience to experience and enjoy.”

Adelaide United Captain Michael Valkanis said “for our team to be able to play on this incredible sporting field is just brilliant. We are excited to have the opportunity to play in a different location in our home town and take to a field that has such a huge sporting history.”

AUFC Vice-Captain Travis Dodd said, “I can-t wait to play at the Adelaide Oval. I remember being a ball boy for an Adelaide City game there back in the old NSL and the atmosphere was fantastic.”

“Hopefully we can take our home ground advantage to Adelaide Oval for this game and all of the fans can get behind it because the players are really looking forward to it.”

In what is believed to be a first of its kind, Adelaide United FC and the South Australian Cricket Association have collaborated to present Adelaide sports fans with a budget priced twin ticket package, to take in two sporting events over the Christmas holiday period - Hyundai A-League football on 28 December and KFC Twenty20 cricket on New Year-s Day.

Fans can enjoy the convenience of the city location and its easy accessibility. Mr Ciccarello added “the location benefits those people who may not have seen Adelaide United play live, and this gives them the chance to bring their friends and family along to see a game of football being played right in the heart of the city.”

The showcase game will provide an opportunity for new audiences to experience the game with Mr Ciccarello saying “we are very optimistic about playing in front of a big crowd who want to see a highly entertaining game against one of Adelaide-s fiercest rivals.”

People attending the Adelaide United versus Sydney FC match can expect to revel in not only action packed on-field football but a total entertainment package intended to create a unique football atmosphere.
