Hyundai A-League 2007/08 launched
The Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season was officially launched in Sydney today, by Football Federation Australia Chief Executive Officer Ben Buckley and Hyundai Motor Company Australia CEO, Steven Yeo along with the captains and coaches from each of the 8 Hyundai A-League Clubs.
“After only two years, the Hyundai A-League competition is now a feature event in the Australian sporting calendar,” said Mr Buckley at today-s launch
“The supporters that have turned out in record numbers over the first two seasons have really made going to a Hyundai A-League football match a truly unique experience.
“This season of the Hyundai A-League promises to deliver even more than ever on our new tagline 90 minutes, 90 emotions,” said Mr Buckley.
Mr Buckley also paid tribute to the enormous support that Hyundai provided to the success of competition.
“Joining us in this journey continues to be an impressive growing list of partners and I would like to acknowledge the continued support of our major sponsor Hyundai who have been the driving force behind the Hyundai A-League since the inception of the competition.”
The Hyundai A-League season will feature the inaugural appearance of new club Wellington Phoenix from New Zealand who replace the New Zealand Knights. IN addition, a number of current and former Socceroos have been recruited to the competition including Paul Agostino, Hayden Foxe, Adam Griffiths, Ljubo Milicevic, Craig Moore, Tony Popovic, Nick Rizzo & Danny Tiatto, as well as New Zealand All-Whites Tony Lochead , Shane Smeltz and Glen Moss who have all signed with the Phoenix.
The 2007 Pre-Season cup saw a record crowd attend the matches, and with club memberships up by 10% the attendances for the Hyundai A-League again look to be high also.
Round 1 of the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season kicks off on Friday Night (24 August 2007) when Sydney FC host the Central Coast Mariners at the Sydney Football Stadium, whilst on Saturday (25 August) night in Brisbane, the Queensland Roar are up against Adelaide United. On Sunday (26 August) last season-s Premier & Champions, Melbourne Victory fly over the Tasman to New Zealand and will face the Hyundai A-League-s newest club, Wellington Phoenix in Wellington whilst the Newcastle Jets travel west to face Perth Glory in Perth.
