Commbank Pararoos Squad Announced For Penultimate Training Camp Before World Cup

CommBank Pararoos’ Head Coach Kai Lammert has announced a 13-player squad for the final training camp before the IFCPF World Cup 2024 in Salou, Spain. 

The camp will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra from 18 – 20 October 2024 and will be the final chance for players to put their hand up for selection in the World Cup squad. 

This squad presents any opportunity for William McGrath (Football NSW) and Giacomo Izzo (Football West) to push for selection and earn international debuts when the final squad for the World Cup is confirmed in early November. 

The squad is anchored by the experience of goalkeeper David Barber, who remains a cornerstone of the team with 111 caps and brings valuable leadership to the team which contains eight players with 10 or fewer international caps. 

With less than a month remaining before the World Cup, Lammert is looking forward to a productive and positive training camp as they prepare for their biggest challenge of the year. 

“This camp is absolutely vital as we move closer to the World Cup. We’ve been building toward this for months, and now it’s about bringing all the pieces together,” said Lammert. 

“The World Cup is less than a month away, so this is our last chance to fine-tune everything. The boys know what’s at stake, and the focus is on ensuring we’re as prepared as we can be when we hit the pitch in Spain. 

“It’s exciting to see how some of the newer faces, like William and Giacomo, can bring something different to the team, while our experienced players, like David Barber, provide that steady leadership we need going into the World Cup,” Lammert concluded. 

In their 11th appearance at the IFCPF World Cup, the CommBank Pararoos have been drawn in Group C alongside the USA, Netherlands and Thailand for the men’s tournament to be contested in Salou, Spain from 6 – 24 November, 2024.
