CommBank ParaMatildas return to camp as World Champions with eye on the future

After their historic triumph at the 2024 IFCPF Women’s World Cup in Spain, the CommBank ParaMatildas will reunite for their first training camp since lifting the trophy, with a three-day program scheduled at Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood from 13 to 15 June.

The squad contains nine players from the world-beating side that travelled to Spain last year, with Football NSW’s Tamsin Colley the only new addition.

The June camp will also include a Come and Try Day on Saturday, 14 June from 11:00am–2:30pm, hosted by Football NSW as part of its Female Para Football Program. The event will be held at Valentine Sports Park and is open to participants who want to experience the game in an inclusive and supportive environment. Register your interest HERE.

Integral to the team’s long-term success is the development of training programs and players across the country. This effort is being powered by the support and collaboration of member federations including Football NSW, Northern NSW Football, Football Victoria, Football West, as well as others. Together, they are helping to expand the talent pool and build stronger foundations for female players living with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, and symptoms of stroke.

The reigning World Champions will assemble under the guidance of interim Head Coach Alicia Ferguson, a former CommBank Matilda who represented Australia in 66 internationals, including appearances at two FIFA Women’s World Cups, and more recently was involved in the CommBank ParaMatildas’ preparation for the IFCPF World Cup 2024.

“This is a really exciting moment for the team and the broader ParaFootball community,” Ferguson said.

“We’re not just acknowledging what’s been achieved, we’re also looking to the future by strengthening our pathways and creating more opportunities for women with disability across the country.”
