Football Australia is thrilled to announce that the CommBank Matildas will return to Western Australia this June and July, taking on European side Slovenia and Central American nation Panama.
The fixtures mark the CommBank Matildas' first appearances in Perth since their successful AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers in 2023, while regional fans will witness the Australian Women’s National Team in action for the first time in Bunbury.
With the support of the WA Government through Tourism WA, the CommBank Matildas will launch their June/July FIFA Women’s International Window with a two-match series against Slovenia at HBF Park on Thursday, 26 June 2025 (7.00pm WST) and Sunday, 29 June 2025 (6.00pm WST).
The Australian Women’s National Team will then travel to Bunbury to host Panama at Hands Oval on Saturday, 5 July 2025 (2.30pm WST), before completing the international window back in Perth with a second match against the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ participant at HBF Park on Tuesday, 8 July 2025 (6.00pm WST).
The matches will serve as further building for the CommBank Matildas as they continue their journey towards the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™.
Football Australia Interim Chief Executive Officer, Heather Garriock said: “Bringing the CommBank Matildas back to Western Australia reflects the strong connection between our national teams and the WA community.”
“Following the success of the Olympic Qualifiers in 2023 and the strong interest in the Subway Socceroos' upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Perth has proven to be a valued location in our broader national team strategy.
“These matches provide meaningful opportunities to engage with passionate WA supporters, strengthen our presence ahead of our opening match of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™, and continue delivering world-class football experiences across Australia.
“Slovenia and Panama are two emerging football nations with distinct playing styles, which makes this series an excellent set of matches for the CommBank Matildas. As we prepare for major tournaments, it’s vital to expose the team to a variety of tactical approaches and these matches will mirror the kind of diversity we’re likely to encounter in the Asian Cup.
“We’re proud to continue our push into regional Australia, with Bunbury the latest community to welcome a national team. Following matches in Geelong, Newcastle, and Townsville, this visit reinforces our belief that every fan, regardless of postcode, deserves the opportunity to see their national teams live and be part of the game’s journey.”
“We thank the Western Australian Government for their continued support of Australian football and partnership in helping us deliver world-class events that not only inspire local communities but also strengthen the game across the country,” Garriock concluded.
Western Australian Minister for Tourism, Hon. Reece Whitby MLA said: “Western Australians love the Matildas, and it’s fantastic to welcome them back to Perth for another exclusive international series, building on the momentum of 2023’s unforgettable Olympic qualifiers.”
“These matches are not only exciting for fans, but they’ll also drive visitors into Perth and into the Southwest, supporting our tourism and hospitality sectors during the winter period.
“Hosting the Matildas for the first time in regional WA is a huge milestone and shows our commitment to growing the game and spreading the benefits of these major events beyond the metro areas.”
City of Bunbury Mayor, Jaysen De San Miguel said: “We are absolutely thrilled to host the Matildas in Bunbury and know our community will be equally excited to see our nation’s best women footballers in action.”
“This is yet another historic moment for Bunbury and our impressive new Hands Oval precinct, highlighting our city’s growing reputation as a hub for major sporting events.
“Thank you to Football Australia, the State Government and Tourism WA for having the confidence in Bunbury and bringing this amazing event here for our community to enjoy.”
