Clare Wheeler has signed a new contract with Everton in the WSL, which will see the midfielder continue her stay in Merseyside, extending her contract at the club until June 2027.
Wheeler, who originally signed on loan from Fortuna Hjørring in the Danish League in August 2022, has been an important part of Brian Sorensen’s midfield since the two made the move from Denmark.
The midfielder has worn the captain's armband for the Toffees' past two games, showing her leadership qualities in midfield. Wheeler has made 17 appearances in the WSL in the 2024/25 season and has played 56 games for Everton across all competitions since joining the club.
“I feel really excited,” she told evertontv. "It is great to have that trust from the manager to want me to stay and believe in me and this project that we have going on here. I really like this Club. I feel really at home here, and I'm glad that I get to call it home for a bit longer.
“This team wants to strive for better. With the new owners coming in, there is a buzz around this team, and given our recent performances this year; it is seeing that there is a new chapter coming in."
“Growing up, you see it on the television screens, but now actually being over here and seeing what football means to the people at Everton – I compare it to religion. It means a lot.
“I feel extremely grateful to be part of that. I know when I wear the badge I try my best. That is something that the fans have told me that they respect that. They just want you to give it your all and that is what I try to do.”
Everton have two games left of the 2024/45 Women's Super League season, taking on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby and finishing the season at home against Tottenham. All Women's Super League games can be streamed via Optus Sport.
