Australia in safe hands with young keepers

The next crop of Mat Ryan’s and Mark Schwarzer’s have come together at the FFA Goalkeeper Development Camp 2015 in Canberra.

The camp, which was held from 26-28 November, saw 15 talented young goalkeepers born in either 2001 or 2002 converge on the AIS for the three days as they were put through their paces.

FFA Head of Goalkeeping Tony Franken, who is also the Socceroos’ Goalkeeper Coach, and National Goalkeeper Development Manager (NGDM) Dean May conducted the camp, which was also attended by talented emerging goalkeeper coaches, Brody Crane and Trinity Allen.

The purpose of the camp was to assess the technical abilities in 3-day training environment of the talented goalkeepers who had been identified at the 2015 National Youth Championships (NYC).

For some of the 15 young goalkeepers in attendance, it was their second time at a development camp, thereby allowing an opportunity to see their development over the past 12 months. For the others, it was their first time under the watchful eyes and guidance of Australia’s top goalkeeping minds.

“This camp was a great opportunity for these young goalkeepers to experience the first step in hopefully their transition along the national pathway,” said Franken.

“The conduct and attitude of all the boys was excellent, and they all demonstrated some individual quality and potential.”

Goalkeepers from West Australia, Queensland, NSW, Northern NSW, Tasmania, South Australia and the ACT attended the camp.
