Futsal referee Chris Colley has become the first Australian to officiate an AFC Futsal Championship final, presiding over Japan's retention of their title.
Colley was the second referee for the enthralling finale between Iran and Japan, which saw the reigning title holders again lift the trophy following a penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Yushi Sekiguchi was the hero for the Blue Samari, saving three spot kicks after the scores finished 2-2 after extra-time at Phu Tho Stadium in Vietnam.
Japan came from behind twice courtesy of goals to Kotaro Inaba and an extra-time own goal after Farhad Tavakoli and Hossein Tayebi had given 10-time champions Iran the lead.
The appointment capped a great tournament for Colley whose busy schedule included running four matches as well as performing sideline duties in a further four games.
The high standard of Australian Futsal refereeing was given a second endorsement with Scott Kidson presiding over the 3v4 playoff, which saw Uzbekistan down Kuwait.
The Futsalroos made the quarter-finals of the tournament after wins over China and Indonesia but were knocked out by eventual fourth-place finishes Kuwait.
